The Centre Culturel Le Griffon works to preserve the site of a former fishing cooperative.The centre offers quality events and services allowing visitors to enjoy a pleasant cultural experience.
The Centre Culturel Le Griffon is situated near the wharf in the heart of the town of L’Anse-au-Griffon. This site, with its history and architecture is an important element in the heritage of the Gaspé. Erected in 1942, the site building served as a warehouse for drying and salting fish. In 1973, a fire ravaged the fishing establishment, but the refrigeration section of the warehouse was saved. All activity in this sector stopped in the early 90s. The building distinguishes itself from other warehouses of the region by its architectural plan in cross form (cruciform), the layout of its sloped roof, its covered entrances and impressive space.
--A permanent exhibition about the fishermen’s co-operative in the Gaspé.
--Artifacts, photos and sculptures recreating typical scenes of the fishing co-operative era and portraying the life of the fishermen of L’Anse-au-Griffon.
--Café de L’Anse:
The Café de L’Anse offers regional dishes using local products, open year-round.
--Gallery/workshop – Claude Coté:
The gallery, open from June 22 to November 1, features the work of artist Claude Coté, a well-known watercolorist of L’Anse-au-Griffon.
--Multifunctional room:
The Centre Culturel Le Griffon offers the use of a multifunctional space for meetings
--Internet Access Centre (CACI- Centre d’Accès Communautaire Internet):
The CACI internet access centre consists of five computer work stations with high speed internet.
