
The Centre d’Archives de la Gaspésie is the only registered private archives repository on the Gaspé Peninsula. The centre maintains a valuable documentary collection of the heritage and culture of the Gaspé Peninsula and allows users the opportunity to consult, reproduce and disseminate its archival documents.Information courtesy of the Musée de la Gaspésie.
In compliance with the Quebec’s Archives Act, the Corporation du Musée de la Gaspésie was granted the status of registered private archives repository on August 22, 1990.
Located in the Gaspe Museum, the Archives Repository receives approximately 300 requests for information annually, with 200 consultations taking place on-site.
Since its founding, the Centre d’Archives de la Gaspésie has acquired several collections important to the region’s history. Its inventory of acquisitions contains more than 488 linear metres of written archives, 909 maps and plans, nearly 55,000 photographs and some 972 hours of sound recordings and films.
