A meticulous restoration of the Kempffer Cultural Interpretation Centre was undertaken in 2004 by Heritage New Carlisle, a non-profit organization run by volunteers and dedicated to protecting, promoting, and restoring the social, cultural, and architectural heritage of the town.

Physical Description:
The Kempffer House is an example of New Carlisle’s unique blend of American, French, and British architecture. Originally built in 1784 by Lieutenant Frederick Ludwig (Luis) Kempffer, one of the area’s first Loyalist settlers, and rebuilt by his descendants in 1868.

The centre consists of a production workshop and exhibition hall in the basement of the building. The ground-floor level houses a reception area for tourists, a handicraft shop for local artisans and a second exhibition hall, along with a kitchen and administrative office.

The second story of Kempffer House includes a library and a permanent museum-style exhibit, including archives.
